Founded in 1940 by Lloyd McKinney Sr., the company began when he purchased an existing retail renovation shop in Springfield, Missouri. At that time, the factory operated under the name O.K. Mattress Factory.
1943
During the war, innerspring units were unavailable for manufacturing new mattresses. As a result, the business primarily focused on recovering and renovating old mattresses and crafting box springs from reclaimed bed springs.
1950
Seeing new opportunity, Lloyd McKinney Sr. renamed the company McKinney’s O.K. Mattress Factory and expanded operations, supplying retail stores throughout Missouri and Arkansas.
1956
The business moved to its present location at 718 W. Chase Street in Springfield, Missouri, marking a new chapter as it became known as McKinney Bedding Company.
1971
After the passing of his father, Lloyd McKinney Jr. (Jim) took over as President, continuing the McKinney family legacy at McKinney Bedding.
1978
The company introduced innovation to the region by designing and producing the Midwest’s first heated softside waterbeds, marketed under the name Paradise Island.
1990
McKinney Bedding celebrated 50 years of craftsmanship and family tradition.
